MACC provides a training course for the Portuguese Navy
MACC’s researchers André Pereira and João Barbosa were invited by the Portuguese Navy to teach a three-day training course about High-Performance Computing. This training course took place at the Instituto Hidrográfico in Lisbon, between October 12 to 14, 2022.

MUG 2022 discussed HPC-related topics in Portugal and Europe
This year’s edition of MUG: MACC User Group Workshop, organized by MACC, gathered around 70 people, from experts to users and potential users, to discuss topics related to HPC in Portugal and Europe, such as the future of HPC, Advanced Computing, Sustainability, and Social, Economic and Educational challenges. The event took place on July 7 and 8 at the Crowne Plaza hotel, in Porto, Portugal.

On June 13, MACC’s coordinator, Rui Carlos Oliveira, went to Kajaani, in Finland, to attend the inauguration of the European High Performance Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) supercomputer, LUMI.

MACC participated in the NCC Portugal Nways To GPU Programming Bootcamp
The Minho Advanced Computing Center (MACC) participated in a GPU programming Bootcamp, organized by the Portuguese EuroCC National Center of Competence, in collaboration with NVIDIA and OpenACC.org. The event was held virtually, between April 13th and 14th.
HPC4PE is the latest Portuguese project on HPC within the scope of the F4FEuroHPC Open Call
The project HPC4PE- “High Performance Computing for Profile Extrusion” is one of the two Portuguese initiatives accepted within the scope of the second FF4EuroHPC Open Call for experiment proposals, which took place between June and September, 2021.

Sustainable HPC project will reduce the carbon footprint of the Deucalion supercomputer
Supercomputers are systems with huge data processing capacity, capable of performing millions of billions of calculations per second and solving complex problems, in fields like engineering and science. However, this complex hardware requires specific facilities and cooling systems, using up significant amounts of power.
