Introducing Deucalion: supercomputer opens the door to digital transition and business competitiveness

The inexhaustible contribution that supercomputing can make to boosting business has attracted increasing attention from companies - and in Portugal, this is no exception. To inform and raise awareness among entrepreneurs, especially SMEs, about the capacity of these machines, the contribution they can make to the digital transition and the competitiveness of companies to bring Deucalion closer to the business community, ‘The Role of Supercomputers in the Digital Transition and the Competitiveness of Companies and Organisations’ was held on 22 May at the Azurém Campus of the University of Minho.

The initiative was attended by António Luís Sousa, MACC's researcher, who was in charge of presenting Deucalion - the fastest Portuguese supercomputer ever and recently included in the TOP500 list. Afterwards, the professor at School of Engineering at the University of Minho also took part in the round table ‘The Role of Supercomputers in the Digital Transition and the Competitiveness of Companies and Organisations’ - moderated by Jorge Saraiva, Chief Innovation Officer at Grupo Três60, and also made up of João Nuno Ferreira, from FCCN/FCT, Luís Sarmento, from Inductiva AI and Rui Pinheiro, from FUJITSU.

The agenda also included a visit to the Deucalion supercomputer data center, where the companies had the opportunity to get to know Deucalion, as well as better understand how the infrastructure works.
