Supercomputer Deucalion integrates national development strategies in the field of Artificial Intelligence

Minister of Youth and Modernization Margarida Balseiro Lopes visited the facilities of the Portuguese supercomputer Deucalion in Guimarães on February 7. The visit, which included a meeting with the infrastructure team, was part of a series of engagements with the University of Minho (UMinho) to consolidate national strategies in Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The Deucalion supercomputer, inaugurated in September 2023, is managed by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) with the support of UMinho and can perform 10 million billion calculations per second. It is, therefore, a key instrument for producing excellence in science and innovation in Portugal across various fields, positively contributing to developing public policies related to modernization, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

Deucalion is also accessible to researchers looking to enhance their projects by leveraging this innovative computational resource. Applications for A2 and A3 access under the 5th Advanced Computing Projects Call, managed by FCT through its digital services unit FCCN, are open until March 11, 2025.
